How-to Video Workshop

The first event of the year was organized about how-to videos.  It was designed to teach participants the basics of video content creation used in technical communication.

How-to videos are more and more in demand. Since 2014, searches related to “how to” content on YouTube grew 70% year-over-year. Social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook have opened the doors to new and engaging types of content — content that builds relationships with users/clients and offers additional value to them.
And yes, this type of content is more and more used in technical documentation too. These videos can be used effectively for just-in-time training and microlearning. Short topics that address specific, practical topics are the best candidates. These video can be linked to and from relevant docs, and they are usually part of a broader educational package that includes ‘traditional’ documentation, tutorials, sandbox instances, and working examples — what is called "360° documentation")
We decided to learn more about these videos, take a look at how why and how they are created. Our guide in this journey was Lorand Kuban from SAP. The workshop was held on March 4 at Cloudera Hungary's office.

We started off with a short introduction, covered what is needed for making videos and also walked through the basic principles of making quality video content.
After a short break we dived into the nitty-gritty of editing and putting pieces together.
Finally, our instructor did his best to answer the questions raised by the participants. We all had a chance to try out some tools, and also to exchange opinions and ideas about tech doc & how-to videos.

The event was interesting for everyone who wanted a comprehensive & hands-on introduction to creating technical video content.
