End of year summary 2023

It's time for us to do the year-end review. And what a year! 2023 was in many ways an extraordinary year, and we're happy to see how much we accomplished with support from you all.

We'll do the summary a little different this year and give you a small look at what goes on behind the scenes as well.

Membership development

We hit an all time high on the number of members, and we're happy to announce that we broke the 100 mark and are now 114 members. 🥳🥳🥳

This is an important milestone for us, and it highlights the importance of the work we do. We're happy to see we now have a very strong community, where we help each other out, share experiences and knowledge and generally take an interest in what is happening in our field. Thanks a lot for supporting us on this journey. 🙏

We had 3 people terminate their memberships this year. The reasons were retirement and changing jobs to positions not related to technical communication. 

On the other hand, we had 29 new members joining us this year. We hope we'll live up to your expectations, and that you'll benefit greatly from your memberships. Welcome in the community, we look forward to meeting you in 2024. 🤩

A large variety of events

2023 turned out to be a very busy year, where we succeeded in hosting a lot of events. Let's give you some figures first and then a few highlights - we do love those numbers. 😉

• Planned: 17
• Hosted: 14 + Nordic TechKomm conference
• Number of participants in all events: 350

First of all, we're extremely happy to see the support we received from you throughout the year. If you wouldn't participate and be members, there wouldn't be a tekom Danmark. So thank you very much - and please keep it up in 2024. 🥳🤩

We're already now looking for speakers and hosts for next year, so if you have an interesting topic or room to host an event, please reach out to us.

Our top 3 event successes this year:

1. tekom doc dinners are here to stay! 
   We tried out a new format and you welcomed it with open arms. We've had so many interesting talks throughout the year, and we look forward to continue these efforts next year.
2. Tools and trends are big focus areas
   We saw high interest in our events, where we discussed tools and trends, both online and on site. We'll also continue this series next year, and we welcome suggestions for the agendas.
3. In person interaction beats quick online meetings
   We see a change after COVID-19 - and for the positive. You're more willing to participate in on site meetings, which we can see in the feedback we received throughout the year. Both our joint event with tekom Sweden, the career day with Aarhus University and the Nordic TechKomm underline this and we'll do what we can to have more in-person events next year.

We got a lot of great support from the head office in Stuttgart, and we want to send special thanks to our community manager Katharina Willer and conference manager Elisa Weber. Without their help, we wouldn't be able to offer such a great variety of events and an amazing conference for you and other technical communication professionals.

Development in tekom Danmark

2023 was a rewarding year in many ways. We found a better way of working together in the board and distributed tasks more evenly. We continued the good collaboration with our Nordic colleagues in tekom Sweden and STVY Finland, and we expect it will continue next year. We especially look forward to celebrate tekom Sweden's 60 years anniversary - what an achievement! 🥳🥳🥳

Our biggest success this year is the very big increase in members, which we succeeded with due to an increase in events, open and honest dialogues with people and face to face interactions. Especially our collaboration with Aarhus University was successful this year and resulted in 8 new members.

Our biggest challenge this year was resources. There were SO many things we wanted to do, and sometimes we bit off a little more than we could chew. Luckily we were really good at helping each other out and finding a better balance between our actual jobs and our volunteer work in tekom Danmark.

We'll meet in January to do the yearly planning and find out what to offer in 2024. We'll be more realistic this time, and maybe involve some of you to help. 😊 We already know we'll work on:

• Attracting more members with targeted communication and interesting events with help from the work group
• Running a "meet a tekom member" campaign throughout the year (let us know, if you want to be part of it)
• Offering a wide range of events online and on site
• Hosting Nordic TechKomm 2024 - On-site conference in Copenhagen in September
• Continuing the Nordic collaboration with tekom Sweden and STVY Finland

If we should sum up the year in just a few words they would be: Successful, interactive and rewarding.

We want to thank you all for a great 2023. We in the board are happy about the progress we made together, and we look forward to seeing you and your colleagues in 2024.
