Normative requirements
National and supranational standards specify further requirements for information products. A standard is the definition of the requirements for technical devices, components, system modules and technical interfaces, processes and procedures.
Standards have no legally binding status, as they are not created by government legislation but by private standardization institutes. In principle, their application is voluntary. However, the application of standards “…can be binding by legal regulations or contractual agreements”. The requirements for technical documentation resulting from technical standards are subject to constant change at the national and international levels.
As a result of the standards analysis, all normative requirements applicable to an information product are determined and documented. These are concretized in the concept development phase.
- Relevance of standards for technical communication and requirements for information products based on normative specifications
- Standard for the preparation of technical documentation (EN 82079-1)
- Standards in software engineering - Information for users: ISO/IEC/IEEE 26514:2022-01 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 26515:2018-12
- Interaction of standards, directives and laws
- Legally binding nature of standards
- Market relevance of standards (e.g. EU standards, ISO standards, DIN standards)
- Scope of application of standards (for products, e.g. Low Voltage Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, Medical Devices Standard)
- International standards compared to European standards with the same subject matter (e.g. ANSI standards series, EN 82079, ISO 3864, EN 20607)
- Objectives and principles of standardization work
- National and international standardization institutes
- Horizontal and vertical standards (product standards)
- Identification of the type of standard by means of the standard designation
- Structure, organization and cooperation of national and international standardization
- Information and reference sources as well as information portals for standards
- Objectives of factory standards
- Objects of factory standards
- Areas in which factory standards are applied
- Factory standards and technical communication
- Normative requirements of international markets
- Documentation requirements (e.g. in requirement specifications, functional specifications)
- Checklists in standards
- Application and implementation of standards
- Test seals and certificates
- Approved testing institutes
- Approval and testing of conformity to standards
