Media
Information products can be presented using various media and made available to the user. When creating an information product, a decision must be made as to which media types are most suitable under the given conditions. Relevant factors for the decision are usage by the target group, product to be described, how the information product can be displayed on the various output devices, or which media standards can be used.
The results of this process step are used for media planning.
Media formats
- Media formats with a descriptive character (e.g. text, image, graphic, 3D model, film, audio)
- Media formats with an interactive character (e.g. hypertext, interactive image, interactive graphics, interactive 3D model, interactive film, animation, simulation)
- Suitability of media formats for different information (e.g. ideal media formats for text, images, 3D, video)
Publication media and output devices
- Publication media (e.g. print, internet browser, viewer, audio, sensor technology, app, info portal)
- Output devices (e.g. PC screen, smartphone, tablet, data carrier, loudspeaker, projection, glasses, headset, paper) and their properties for the integration of information products, e.g. with regard to storage, archivability, reading devices, mobility, availability, usage environment (e.g. dust, temperature, dirt, moisture, mobility, online connection)
- Possibilities and, in particular, limits of technologies (e.g. VR/AR)
- Usage scenarios of the publication media (e.g. service technician with tablet)
Media standards
- Technical source and output formats and standards for encoding content (e.g. PDF, HTML5, EPUB, XML, JSON, 3D PDF, U3D, WebGL, 3D XML, MPEG4, MPEG3, web apps, hybrid apps, native apps)
- Restrictions of media standards with regard to use for information products and dependence on publication media, output devices or operating systems
