Observation of the information product

Once the information product has been published and distributed, it must be monitored on the market to ensure that all the requirements necessary for the user have been taken into account and fulfilled. The aim of monitoring the information product is to obtain feedback on the information product from users in order to optimize the information product. This process phase thus closes the circle to the first process phase, the environment analysis.

Evaluation

The evaluation of the information product is systematic. It provides findings in order to identify opportunities for improvement in the creation of information products and to be able to react to new or changed requirements. There are various methods for evaluation, e.g. surveys or tests. The use of a method depends on the respective goal and question of the evaluation.

The results of an evaluation provide information that is evaluated during the environment analysis with regard to potential improvements for the information product.

Usability methods
  • Usability tests and survey methods (e.g. thinking aloud, eye-tracking, surveys, observation)
  • Typical problems and risks when conducting a usability test (e.g. representativeness) and solutions (e.g. participant selection)
  • Quality criteria for usability tests (e.g. quality criteria: Reliability, validity, objectivity, representativeness, economy)
Customer and user surveys
  • Survey methods (e.g. interviews, written surveys)
  • Conception, structure and implementation of a survey (e.g. creation of a questionnaire, sources of error in surveys, quality criteria, means of increasing the response rate)
  • Typical problems and risks when conducting a survey and solutions (e.g. means of increasing the response rate)
  • Analysis and evaluation of surveys, analysis of data using descriptive methods
User observation and self-test
  • User observation and evaluation of informative value
  • Systematic observation and observation recording
  • Sources of error in observations and self-tests
Tests and expert opinions
  • Expert opinion
  • Public test procedures and documentation awards (e.g. Stiftung Warentest, Konsumententipp, tekomDokupreis, STC-Preis)
