The New IEC/IEEE 82079-1 Ed. 2 Is now Available for Purchase

Claudia Klumpp

A total of 5 years and 8 international meetings involving 3 major standardization organizations (ISO, IEC and IEEE) and 21 experts from a total of 9 countries were needed for the revision. The result is internationally recognized and can be called a success. The revised standard IEC/IEEE 82079-1, with the new title Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products - Part 1: Principles and general requirements, has been officially available in English and French in the webstore of the IEC since Friday, May 17. It replaces the previously valid IEC 82079-1 Preparation of instructions for use - Structuring, content and presentation - Part 1: General principles and detailed requirements from 2012. The standard is available in a bilingual version (130 pages in total) for 300 CHF  and thus has the same price as the previous version.

Compared to the previous version, the new version is much more clearly structured. At https://webstore.iec.ch/publication/29075, you can preview not only the table of contents, but also the introduction, the scope and the normatively referenced standards free of charge. The introduction explains in detail the new concept of information for use.
