tekom Europe Contributes to the EC Guide to Application of the Machinery Regulation

Experts are currently working in groups to prepare the draft of the European Commission’s (EC) Guide to Application of the Machinery Regulation. Mr. Michael Fritz, CEO of tekom Europe, is a member of the Editorial Group - Subgroup 5 dealing with digital instructions and information. Among other things, tekom Europe would like to anchor the following in the EC Guide:

• EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2020 as technical guidance for preparing instructions for use by offering principles and provisions for the information management process, and the content, structure, media, and format of information for use. The principles provide, for example, how to address uncertain legal terms stated in the Machinery Regulation in the instructions for use;
• the ID link according to IEC 61406-1:2022 for unambiguous identification of information.

It is also important to clarify in the EC Guide that

• Machinery Regulation requirements for instructions for use and information in accordance with Annex III also include the manufacturer's website and how to find this information.
• The one-month period to supply instructions for use in paper format begins from the point at which the instructions for use are available.

The subgroups will meet over the next months. The EC Guide should be finalized before the Machinery Regulation applies, starting January 20, 2027.
