TecCOMFrame Plus: Ready for the Technical Communication of Tomorrow

Technical communication is changing rapidly. Digitalization, new technologies and, in particular, artificial intelligence are transforming tasks, work methods, and competency requirements—meaning they are also presenting new challenges for training and academic programs.

We are thus all the more pleased that TecCOMFrame is now entering its next phase: TecCOMFrame Plus.

Back in 2015, tekom Europe launched the Erasmus+ project TecCOMFrame in collaboration with European university partners. The project resulted in a common academic competency framework for technical communication, prototype curricula, and a European information platform for academic studies and careers. The project was successfully completed in 2018.

But a lot has happened since then. What competencies do technical writers need today and in the future? How should degree programs be further developed? And how can we show young people the exciting career prospects that technical communication offers?

This is exactly where TecCOMFrame Plus comes in. Led by the University of Padua and Federica Vezzani, the new European project will launch at the end of 2026. Together, the project partners aim to examine the changing competency requirements and tailor the results to specific target groups, including academic educators, managers, companies, and prospective students.

A modern platform will make the results visible and accessible, helping to ensure that training, skills development, and the recruitment of new talent in technical communication are well positioned for the future.

We are very excited to be part of TecCOMFrame Plus once again and to actively shape the future of our professional field together with our European partners.
