Report on the Year 2025

Let’s look back at tekom Europe’s 2025: highlights, achievements, learning.

Before we look back, however, we want to thank all our volunteers in the country organizations, working groups, and other initiatives for dedicating their time and expertise to organize events, share ideas, and contribute to our tekom Europe community – you are great! We look forward to a successful new year together with you.

Highlights of 2025

In 2025, tekom Europe celebrated a series of significant milestones and achievements, showcasing the strength and growth of our community.

One of the key highlights was the 10th anniversary of tekom Bulgaria, which was celebrated by the community from the Evolution of TC conference in Sofia.

Another highlight of the year was tekom Europe’s participation at the tcworld conference in Stuttgart. Visitors to the tekom Europe stand had the chance to connect with country organizations from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, and Israel, which were present and available at the conference. The honors banquet at tcworld provided a moment to celebrate the dedication of volunteers like delegates and board members who have made significant contributions to tekom Europe.

Another highlight was the celebration of the Ulf L. Andersson Award at NORDIC TechKomm Copenhagen. It was only the second time that this annual award was given to a volunteer for outstanding commitment to our community. This award is for dedicated volunteers without current official positions such as delegate or board member. Nominations are still open until February 8, 2026. Read more about the award, the nomination process, and past winners in this news article.

In September, 27 tekom Europe members followed the call for candidates and ran in the tekom Europe election as a delegate or board member for their country organization or as a delegate representing all members in countries where no country organization has been founded yet. In November, members elected their country organization’s delegates and board members, and the voting results were published in December.

Amid the celebrations, tekom Europe also experienced transitions. While Evolution of TC will be maintained as an annual conference, the initiative committee members and delegate of tekom Bulgaria did not run for a new term, since most of them are transitioning to other roles within their company. Therefore, the decision was made to pause tekom Bulgaria starting 2026 until we find local members interested in maintaining and growing the community in Bulgaria and volunteering for the initiative committee.

Events and Webinars

The different country organizations organized a range of online and on-site events in 2025. Alongside the many various individual events, webinars, workshops, university events, company visits, and get-togethers organized by each country organization, we had a couple of cross-border events and conferences.

tekom Belgium and tekom Netherlands organized another successful cross-border event that brought together professionals and students for an afternoon full of insights, inspiration, and connection. Participants discovered how to successfully manage a monumental project of over three million words and gained valuable insights into writing for maintenance and solutions along the documentation process, followed by an engaging session on the power of visualization and video in communication. These presentations were followed by social activities, including a city walk and networking dinner.

Another successful cross-border event was the three-country conference in Dornbirn organized by tekom Österreich in cooperation with Tecom Schweiz and regional groups in tekom Deutschland. Under this year’s motto “Think tank: Future skills for technical documentation”, the keynote speech “Between automation and quality assurance: Generative AI in technical writing” brought the participants up to speed, backed up with figures, data, and facts, and prepared them for the following workshops on various future skills.

tekom Österreich, tekom Magyarország, tekom Romania and tekom Türkiye organized their second joint online event on “News and Trends in Software Documentation”, another success with well over 100 participants. Each country organization contributed an expert for a short presentation, which led to a varied program and a lively exchange with the participants, who actively took part with questions. The recording of the webinar is available in the Webinar Library.

There were also other webinars organized by country organizations, for example, tekom Ireland and tekom Sweden, who held webinars on the life of a technical writer and AI in technical communication. These webinars were recorded and are available in the Webinar Library.

Three assemblies of delegates (AoD) were held in 2025: the first one online on March 18, followed by the on-site AoD in Copenhagen on September 26, and the last one online on December 4. The delegates and other members of the AoD had time to catch up and exchange ideas and experiences. In Copenhagen, the focus was on the presentations of drafts for a tekom Europe manifesto and a business plan, followed up by the delegates in workshops, which will be carried over to the next on-site AoD in spring 2026. Following the delegates’ meeting, the delegates continued their discussions in a relaxed atmosphere at the Carlsberg brewery and museum.

European Conferences

As every year, tcworld hosted three prominent European conferences in 2025, organized in collaboration with country organizations. These events brought together technical communication professionals from across Europe and beyond to share knowledge, explore industry trends, and discuss emerging technologies, particularly the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on technical writing.

The conference season started with Nordic TechKomm Stockholm, held March 12–13 at the Downtown Camper by Scandic. The 2025 theme, “Technical Information in Heavily Regulated Industries”, explored challenges in sectors such as Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Finance, Aerospace, Energy, and Food & Beverages. The conference program offered expert insights, case studies, and discussions tailored for professionals navigating strict regulatory environments. Across two days, attendees participated in 22 presentations and workshops delivered by international speakers.

The second conference in the series, Evolution of TC (ETC), took place May 27–28 in Sofia, utilizing the modern event space of SAP Labs. This venue not only offered all the equipment needed but was also conveniently located, making it accessible to both regional and international attendees. The conference featured 13 presentations and four workshops, drawing attendees and speakers from many different countries. The keynote speech, “The Secret Log of the Blind Astronaut”, addressed the topic of content accessibility, which was also taken up in other presentations at the conference. Combined with the prevailing topic of AI in general, this provided the framework for the diverse presentations and workshops on topics such as AI integration, video documentation, Docs as Code, UX writing, and more.

The third conference, Nordic TechKomm Copenhagen, was held September 24–25 with a pre-conference networking event on September 23. The networking event offered attendees an informal setting to connect, share ideas, and discuss tools and trends in technical communication ahead of the main event. Networking was followed by a walking tour, providing participants with the opportunity to connect and continue to network. Over the two days, after an optional morning swim, attendees could dive into a total of 25 presentations and workshops on the main topic, “Level up Your Technical Information”. The keynote, “Promoting the repair of goods – What technical writers should know about EU Directive 2024/1799”, delivered by Gabriela Fleischer, outlined the implications of this directive for technical writers, with these regulations becoming law in member states by July 31, 2026. Working Groups and Collaborations

The Advisory Board for Professional Development & Training launched a community video campaign with short videos of technical writers sharing their passion for the profession. The marketing video is nearly complete and expected to be made available in early 2026, along with a short image film in planning. At the tcworld conference in November, the advisory board organized nine executives to record statements for the upcoming tekom Europe Manifesto.

The International University Network in Technical Communication (IUNTC) organized seven online meetings, tackling a broad subject range from AI integration in technical communication and marketing, use of controlled natural languages, and plain language technique to enhance health literacy to terminology management and the human factor in communication. These meetings give valuable insights and networking opportunities to university staff and professionals at companies to present and discuss ideas and research projects and developments in the field of technical communication. The summaries of the IUNTC meetings are available on the tekom Europe website.

The joint working group (JWG) New European Regulations continued its work on whitepapers on the AI Act, Right to Repair and Ecodesign Regulation that was kicked off in 2024. The whitepaper “Promoting the Repair of Goods” was completed and published in collaboration with iFixIt in October 2025. The working group will continue its work on the other whitepapers in 2026.

A task group of this JWG developed a new tekom Europe position paper on the EC Guide to application of the Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 that will be published in January 2026, where we express our support for the promotion of digital formats of information for use and raise some concerns.
