University of Copenhagen – Technical Communication – Now and in the future
On 16 April 2026, tekom Danmark and the University of Copenhagen (Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies) hosted an inspiring event titled Technical Communication – Now and in the Future. The session brought together students, professionals, and industry representatives to explore career opportunities and future trends in technical communication.
The event aimed to give students insight into how language-based academic backgrounds can lead to rewarding careers in technical communication and related fields.

🔹 An introduction to hearing aids
Benedicte Degn Mikkelsen (GN Hearing) kicked off the event with an introduction to hearing aids and their role in improving everyday hearing. She also highlighting how thoughtful design and clear instructions make complex technology accessible.
🔹 Career Opportunities in Technical Communication
Thomas Bro-Rasmussen (GN Hearing) continued the event by sharing his extensive experience and discussing why technical communication is an attractive career path. He highlighted the importance of strong communication skills, domain knowledge, and adaptability in a rapidly evolving industry.
🔹 Latest Trends in Technical Communication
Thomas Biering-Nielsen (Etteplan) explored current and emerging trends shaping the profession, including:

🔹 A Real-World Career Journey
Nicklas Kelly Austad (KMD Case Management) shared his personal journey from university to working as a Senior Language and Localization Specialist. His presentation provided valuable insight into the daily work of a technical communicator, including UX text development, documentation, localization, and content strategy.
A Successful Collaboration
This event marked another important step in strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. By connecting students with professionals, tekom Danmark and the University of Copenhagen continue to support the development of future technical communication professionals.
There was a good atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Many questions were asked along the way, which showed great interest from the participants.
