End of Year Summary 2025

2025 was a year of growth, innovation, and strong community engagement for tekom Austria. Building on the momentum of the 30th anniversary celebration in Vienna in late 2024, the association continued its jubilee tour across Austria, strengthened international collaboration, and focused on future skills and AI in technical communication.

2025 Highlights

The anniversary tour launched in Vienna in November 2024 continued throughout the first quarter of 2025 in Linz, Graz and Rankweil. Each anniversary tour stop combined networking with keynote speeches on AI in the company, future of human translation and how to protect yourself from being hacked.

Annual Summary

Membership remained stable at around 475 members, confirming Austria’s position as the largest country organizations within tekom Europe.

This year we hosted 12 events (including our regulars' tables) with around 550 participants.

Biggest success of the year

The annual "Dreiländertagung" in Dornbirn brought together experts from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland under the theme “Future Skills for Technical Communication”

Highlights:

  • Keynote by Prof. Fabian Sippel on Generative AI in Technical Writing
  • Over 100 participants, making it one of the largest regional events to date
  • Strong sponsor presence and networking opportunities

Next year, this event will take place in Winterthur.

Other Notable Events

  • Technical documentation and technology: The full-day event was another one in a regular annual series. Held a week before Easter, it brought together 90 industry professionals, consultants, and students at the University of Applied Sciences in Wels. The theme of the year was explored from multiple perspectives through lectures and meetups, guided by international experts.
  • Information afternoon at FH Joanneum: tekom Austria and FH JOANNEUM hosted an information event in Graz on new obligations in technical communication. The presentations emphasized the growing importance of technical documentation for safety, compliance, and cybersecurity, particularly regarding CE marking and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
  • Company tour and impulse afternoon at COPA-DATA: “From Docs to Data Flow: Innovation Meets Information”
  • Webinar: “News and Trends in Software Documentation – AI in Technical Communication”
  • Regulars' tables (Stammtische) in five cities (January, May, July and November)

Topics and Trends

2025 continued the focus on:

Artificial Intelligence: Practical applications and ethical considerations

Digital Transformation: Moving from static documentation to dynamic content delivery

Future Skills: Competencies needed for next-generation technical communicators

Networking and Community Building: Emphasis on informal formats like regular's tables and cross-border events

Goals for 2026

Our new board isn’t just keeping up - it’s setting a new standard of performance!
