Recap Initiative Committee Meetings 2024
This year, the initiative committee members of the different country organizations have been holding regular IC meetings so that delegates and members of the initiative committee can exchange ideas and discuss the different issues that come up in the country organizations. In January, we discussed the annual plans of the country organizations. Various online and offline events were planned.

The iiRDS API specification enables access to data via iiRDS, thus meeting the growing requirements of the economy. It offers system providers and programmers a standardized interface, ensuring modern functionality to support seamless integration.

The European Machinery Regulation with new requirements for digital instructions for use
With the publication of the Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 in the Official Journal of the European Union on June 29, 2023, the cat is finally out of the bag: From 2027 onward, instructions for use may also be published in digital form within a defined framework. The continuous lobbying of tekom and industry representatives was successful.1

The right to repair is coming: Repair information is becoming increasingly important
The right to repair is on the home straight: It was adopted by the European Parliament on April 23, 2024. In the future, the repair of usable defective goods purchased by consumers will be made easier, which will apply both within and outside the liability of the seller.

Easier generation of iiRDS packages with the new plugin for DITA Open Toolkit
On March 22, the tekom iiRDS Consortium published a free plugin for the DITA Open Toolkit. In fall 2023, an important milestone for the international relevance of iiRDS was reached with the publication of "IEC PAS 63485:2023". Now, with the plugin, the Consortium provides an easy-to-use and customizable tool to enable many international DITA users to easily generate iiRDS packages from the DITA environment.

Update: Position Paper of tekom Europe on the European Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act
On March 13, the 705 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted on the Artificial Intelligence Act at first reading – and they approved it! A reason to celebrate for tekom Europe, which had published its position paper on the European Artificial Intelligence Act just two days earlier and sent it to the MEPs.

IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2019 AND ISO 24183:2024: WHICH STANDARD DO WE – AND SHOULD WE – FOLLOW?
ISO 24183 "Technical communication - Terminology" was published in January 2024. According to the announcement on the ISO website, ISO 24183 "defines terms for the theory and application of technical communication." When ISO 24183 was drafted, the recommendations of the ISO/IEC Guidelines Part 2 to use existing terminological entries from international standards were not always followed, in order to avoid unnecessary proliferation of terminological variants.

Report of the year 2023
Report of the year 2023 Let's look back at tekom Europe's 2023: highlights, achievements, learning. First of all, we want to thank all our volunteers involved in the country organizations, working groups, and other initiatives for organizing events, sharing ideas and contributing to the community – you are great! We look forward to a new year together with you. The first highlight of 2023 was the founding of tekom Ireland as a new country organization.

tcworld conference 2023: 10 Years tekom Europe
At this year’s tcworld conference, we celebrated tekom Europe’s 10th anniversary. The celebration began with the Honors Banquet on Tuesday evening. The founding members of tekom Europe, who signed the founding papers of tekom Europe at tcworld conference 2013 in Wiesbaden, were honored. It was a wonderful evening with good food and good company.

S1000D - THE UNKNOWN STANDARD
tekom Austria organised an event dedicated to the S1000D, a standard that originally comes from the aviation and military industries. The event was held at the FH Joanneum Graz. Several guest speakers shed light on the standard, its theoretical foundations and its practical implementation from different angles.
