tekom Europe's new position paper outlines aspects to be addressed in the European Commission's Guide to application of the Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 (hereinafter referred to as “EC Guide”). The EC Guide is currently being drafted in various working groups. tekom Europe's CEO, Dr Michael Fritz, is involved in Subgroup V, which deals with digital instructions and information. "From tekom's point of view, the reference to EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1 is particularly important. The standard provides support in preparing instructions for use and, among other things, offers guidance on how to technically implement uncertain legal terms from the Machinery Regulation," says Michael Fritz. The standard is already mentioned in the current edition of the EC Guide.  

The EC Guide will be published by the European Commission to support all the parties involved in applying the Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 , including machinery manufacturers, importers and distributors, Notified Bodies, standardisers, occupational health and safety and consumer protection agencies and officials of the relevant national administrations and market surveillance authorities. The Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 is applicable from January 20, 2027.
