European Directive (EU) 2024/1799 on common rules to promote repair introduces a so-called right to repair for products in the European Union‘s internal market. tekom Europe and iFixit have joined forces to explain the Directive and its background and implications for managers and technical writers. The whitepaper also includes considerations for preraring repair information.
This publication outlines Directive (EU) 2024/1799, which strengthens consumer rights to repair and promotes sustainability. It introduces obligations for manufacturers to enable repairs outside the seller’s liability, provided repair is possible. The Directive applies only to products covered by EU legal acts listed in Annex II, mainly based on ecodesign regulations.
Key elements include a standardized European Repair Information Form and an upcoming online platform to support access to repair services. Member States must implement the Directive by 31 July 2026.
