VIRTUAL EXPERTS' BREAKFAST: ONLINE-COLLABORATION IN TECHNICAL WRITING

In tekom Austria's first virtual event, a virtual experts' breakfast with the focus on online collaboration in technical writing, the subject matter experts Alfonsa Matilda Ledesma and Ellis Pratt provided interesting insights into the impact of current developments on the world of technical communication.

Ellis Pratt dove into changing trends in technical communication. Ellis highlighted the dramatically increased need for online help systems and wikis, due to the fact that customer support's phone lines were absolutely overwhelmed when more and more countries moved into lockdown. On the bright side, this might have increased the appreciation for online help systems and the work of tech writers, hopefully for the longterm.

Alfonsa Matilda Ledesma focused on online collaboration among and with technical writers. Drawing from her long-term experience with remote collaboration, Alfonsa provided the participants with practical tips and tricks for better online collaboration in the world of technical communication.

After these two highly insightful talks, the participants engaged in a lively round of questions and discussion and made good use of their time with the two experts Ellis and Alfonsa.
