tcworld conference 2015 in Stuttgart
Program Focused on Intelligent Information and Information 4.0
4200 participants and fair visitors from 48 different countries found their way to the tcworld conference and tekom fair at ICS in Stuttgart, November 10-12. Together with the tekom annual conference, it is the leading global event and marketplace for technical communication. The program focused on Intelligent Information.
The range of conference topics was broadened at this year’s conference at ICS in Stuttgart, focusing on Intelligent Information. Thus, the participants were faced with the agony of choice: they had to choose among 250 expert presentations, workshops and tutorials held by international 278 speakers in English and German.
During the presentations based on the in³ - Intelligent Information Initiative, newly developed by tekom, the participants found answers and inspiration to these questions: How is the classic technical documentation being transformed into an intelligent digital information service? And, how does the “smart” user information of the future look, as everything is becoming “smart”? With these questions, tekom kicked off the age of Information 4.0.
New Topics and Formats Introduced
New tracks and formats at this year’s conference were added to the classic topics of technical communication: a data and cyber security track (German), augmented reality and Information Energy, an already-established conference originating in Utrecht, the Netherlands, organized by tcworld.
A new and dynamic format was also integrated into the conference program (German): The first "Doku-Slam" worldwide took place and was very well received by the audience. Four representatives of the German poetry slam scene presented their work by interpreting the topic of technical communication in ironic and fresh ways.
Further, an action-packed "CAT Fight" took place, in which CAT tool providers had the opportunity to present their respective tools within less than 10 minutes to win over the audience as well as a jury.
Regarding the different topics, it was interesting to see that the presentations related to DITA and CCMS were characterized by a vivid and critical discussion on the pros and cons - for example, during the panel discussions on Intelligent Information, and even afterwards in the social media platforms.
Awards and Social Events
Besides the diversified conference program and the large fair, visitors benefitted from the many occasions in the meantime for networking and exchange with their peers.
At the tekom Welcome Party, participants celebrated the opening of the tcworld conference 2015 as well as the winners of the tekom doku award (honoring successful instruction manuals, online help tools and multimedia-based applications) and the winners of the intro award, the innovation prize in technical documentation for students.
The conference was rounded off with more social events such as an international networking dinner, a Porsche factory tour, a guided tour of the Stuttgart airport, and various city tours and yoga sessions.
The tekom fair: International and Cross-industrial
Besides visiting the conference, there was also enough time to take a look at the tekom fair, with 100 exhibitors from Germany and 75 with an international background, representing a variety of fields and industries.
The main focus at the tekom fair taking place in the two halls was on authoring tools, catalogue production, localization and translation, project management, publishing solutions, editing and content management systems, technical illustration and terminology management.
Not just innovative products were presented, but also editing services ranging from consulting on single projects to a complete outsourcing of a technical documentation department.
In the 58 tool presentations, exhibitors showed software solutions and editing concepts. The five technology panels provided various experts of service providers, industrial companies and science experts an opportunity to discuss the DITA standard and terminology management.
Furthermore, many international organizations of the industry and trade associations – mostly in the field of translation – presented at the Associations World.
The presentation slides of the speakers are available for download on the conference portal.
The next tcworld conference will take place on November 8-10, 2016 at the same venue, ICS in Stuttgart.
