Joint International Working Group Meets for the Revision of IEC 82079-1:2012

Claudia Klumpp

From May 26-28, the joint international working group JWG 16 held its second meeting at the tekom main office in Stuttgart. This international standardization body is in charge of the revision of IEC 82079-1:2012 'Preparation of instructions for use – structuring, content and presentation – Part 1: General principles and detailed requirements.'

Experts from the United States, Japan, Great Britain, Finland, Denmark and Germany took part in the meeting.

The revision of the horizontal standard started late last year. The objectives of the revision are not only an improvement of structure and clarity of the standard, but also the addition of topics so far disregarded, such as the provision of instructions for use by electronic means.

The revision is expected to be completed in 2017 and is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as well as by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

tekom is represented in this joint working group by its CEO, Dr. Michael Fritz, through the national mirror Committee of DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE.
