Event Review

Translation Business Day 2017

Ágnes Czinkóczki

On a sunny Friday, September 15, tekom Magyarország participated in Translation Business Day 2017, a conference organized by Proford, the Hungarian Association of Professional Language Service Providers.

For the first time, the organizers of this annual event on translation-relevant topics extended the conference’s focus to include technical content creation.

tekom Magyarország presentation and roundtables

Ildikó Fehér and Ágnes Czinkóczki from tekom Magyarország gave a presentation on technical writing and translation-friendly authoring. Our aim was to give an insight into the world of technical writing: who technical writers are, what types of content we create, what kinds of methodologies, processes and tools we use. The presentation included a small demo about creating xml content and publishing it in various formats. We concluded our presentation with a few tips and tricks about translation-friendly content creation.

In the afternoon, tekom Magyarország hosted two roundtable discussions moderated by Mariann Acsádi. The participants had many interesting questions that contributed to very vivid and thought-provoking conversations.

Conclusion and Outlook

We left the conference with the impression that translators are interested in technical content creation, and are eager to improve the cooperation between technical writers and translators. As our plans shape up for next year, this is something we will definitely keep in mind!
