Speaker:   Sissi Closs (HsKA)

The development of an information product is a multifaceted process that requires an ever    increasing volume and variety of skills and competencies with distinctive job roles, e.g. department manager, project manager, senior and junior technical writer, copy editor for proofreading. The tekom competence framework developed in 2015 wants to provide a systematic approach to define the phases in the information product development together with the required competencies. It includes an open profiling tool. In this talk, the competence framework and profiling tool will be presented. Using different roles (project manager, technical writer,...) and use cases it will be demonstrated how the profiling tool can be used to determine which competencies are already available in your department or are still needed. If you are a technical writer you will see, which skills are needed to bring you into a better job.

17:30        Coffee Break

17:45        ERASMUS Programme and TecCOMFrame

Speakers:   Sissi Closs (HsKA) &  Voichiţa-Alexandra Ghenghea (University “Politehnica” of Bucharest)

The project consortium aims to develop standard curricula based on a common academic qualification and competence framework – the TecCOMFrame, which stands for Technical Communication Competence Framework. The framework should further enable and support transparency, recognition, and transferability of the qualification and competences of technical communicators. As a result, curricula will be developed for EQF levels 5-7, constituting more higher education programs in TC across Europe, which again leads to more graduates who will be well prepared for the labour market. As an important side effect the recognition of the profession will be reinforced.
