tekom Romania Conference 2015

Single Source Publishing Using DITA and DITA Tools

Dana Prodan

The event took place on February 27, 2015, in the Senate Hall of the Politehnica University of Bucharest. The subject of this event was Single Source Publishing with DITA and DITA Tools, and our guest speaker, Prof. Sissi Closs, spoke about DITA: The adequate source format in a heterogeneous documentation environment. In her talk, she explained the main principles and features of DITA and showed examples of DITA authoring using popular tool environments, such as the Adobe Technical Communication Suite.

Why Choose DITA?

Many companies recognize the advantages of maintaining their sources in DITA:

  • As more writers learn DITA either at university or on the job, it's easier for companies to hire employees with sound DITA expertise. They save significant training costs that would be needed for proprietary solutions.
  • As more organizations use DITA, the knowledge of how to use it grows. A company can profit from this knowledge and save time and costs that would otherwise be spent developing individual solutions.
  • The tool landscape continues to grow. Thanks to the expanding developer community, new technical developments are quickly implemented. A company with DITA sources can remain flexible and innovate quickly as we have seen recently with the mobile sector.
