News from tekom Europe

Ever heard of tekom Magyarország?!

Anke Neytchev

tekom Magyarország is the name of the newest member of our tekom Europe family. Magyarország means Hungary in Hungarian – tekom Europe is following the pattern of actually naming its country organizations in their mother tongue.

tekom Magyarország was officially founded on March 31 in Budapest, Hungary. Jürgen Muthig, chairperson of tekom Europe, and Anke Neytchev, staff member responsible for country organizations and university relations, attended the founding event, which was organized by the Hungarian community of technical communication professionals.

Becoming a country organization within tekom Europe

Almost precisely one year ago, a round table was held in Budapest in order to explore opportunities for establishing a Hungarian country organization within tekom Europe. Since then, a group of volunteers has been working on approaching professionals and winning them over to the initiative to advance the technical communication profession in Hungary with the support of a strong association. At the beginning of 2016, ten tekom Europe members from Hungary signed a founding proposal, which was then approved by the Executive Board of tekom Europe. One member was then invited as a guest to the Assembly of Delegates in March, the association’s highest decision-making body.

Sparkling wine and spring sun for the happy occasion

The founding event marked the final step in the process of becoming part of the tekom Europe family and thus the ninth country organization. It was actually the first lovely spring day in Budapest and, as such, the perfect setting for starting with this initiative. tekom Europe representatives gave a brief overview of the history of tekom/tekom Europe and talked about the latest activities and goals. The newly formed initiative committee of tekom Magyarország introduced itself and presented their ideas and goals for the upcoming months. Representatives of the founding members also gave short talks on their backgrounds and expectations for the association. Finally, Jürgen Muthig let the corks pop for the formal ceremony of the founding of tekom Magyarország.

We as tekom Europe look forward to working with such an enthusiastic community and will be glad to support them in their development.
